MURRAY SMOKER

Murray was fortunate to have been born into an artistic family. Both parents were commercial artists working in advertising in the 1940’s-1970’s, he learned a great deal about the fundamentals of drawing by observing and copying their work.

Murray scored a full time job at age 21 as an illustrator for the Department of Education, he found I was constantly referring back to my old Mad mags for inspiration from cartoon masters like Mort Drucker, Paul Coker Jnr and Jack Davis.

After 26 years illustrating exclusively for educational publications, Murray then freelanced as a cartoon illustrator for companies both in Perth and interstate, producing hundreds of humorous artwork pieces for the national marketplace.
